Virus en movimiento: notas sobre el turismo mochilero en tiempos de pandemia

This article discusses some of the repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic among backpackers: individuals who seek to make their trips based on “independence” from tourist agencies, flexibility of itineraries, longer time in transit, “lean budget”, contacts with different subjects (locals and travelers) and engagements in non-scripted activities. Two sets of issues will be explored here: the political and social effects of the coronavirus among subjects who were still “on the road”, provoking actions to deal with situations of border closure, conflicts with agents from the receiving States and with the local community, stigmatization, repatriation flights, constitution of solidarity networks for shelter, food and also emotional care and; the positioning, in the face of the pandemic, of digital platforms and virtual social networks, largely responsible for encouraging and providing information for carrying out the viatic ventures of many backpackers.
