Considerações para a compreensão do saneamento básico no Brasil

Assuming that water is a natural and finite element, with great importance for the maintenance of life on planet Earth and that most human activities are dependent on this resource, it is known that it is not just the scarcity of water resources that disturb the lives of the population. Water pollution and contamination are also unfavorable factors, hence the importance of universal access to basic sanitation services. This article aims to carry out a brief history of basic sanitation in the world, to analyze the history of basic sanitation in Brazil and to consider about Brazilian basic sanitation in the current context. For the fulfillment of these purposes, a bibliographical research was carried out about the object of the research. The results shows that basic sanitation services over the years have been evolving and covering a larger portion of the world's population, however government investments and also private initiative are still not enough for these services to become truly universal. There are many people who do not have access to it, which has the serious consequence of an increase in diseases among the population not served by these services.
