Resumo: Supermarkets are arranged in urban centers in strategic locations that allow greater accessibility to the establishment, thus, medium-sized cities have the potential and urban complexity necessary to become attractive to large supermarket chains. In Montes Claros, a ciudad media city in the north of the state of Minas Gerais, there are six large supermarket chains. Thus, the objective of this research is to identify how supermarkets are strategically located and what are their implications in the urban area of the city. For this, supermarket points were mapped and the construction density index was generated, which were associated with the database of circulation routes and population by planning region. The mapping showed that the supermarkets are located in the areas with the highest building density and arranged in the main access roads. The field work, carried out in the establishments, showed the influence of supermarkets in different urban areas of Montes Claros. Keywords: Supermarkets. Montes Claros. Medium-sized.

Medium-sized.Los supermercados se disponen en los centros urbanos en lugares estratégicos que permiten una mayor accesibilidad al establecimiento, por lo que las ciudades medianas cuentan con el potencial y la complejidad urbanística necesaria para volverse atractivas para las grandes cadenas de supermercados. En Montes Claros, una ciudad de tamaño medio en el norte del estado de Minas Gerais, hay seis grandes cadenas de supermercados. Así, el objetivo de esta investigación es identificar cómo se ubican estratégicamente los supermercados y cuáles son sus implicaciones en el casco urbano de la ciudad. Para ello se mapearon puntos de supermercados y se generó el índice de densidad de construcción, los cuales se asociaron a la base de datos de vías de circulación y población por región de planificación. El mapeo mostró que los supermercados están ubicados en las áreas con mayor densidad de edificación y dispuestos en las principales vías de acceso. El trabajo de campo, realizado en los establecimientos, mostró la influencia de los supermercados en diferentes zonas urbanas de Montes Claros. Palabras clave: Supermercados. Montes Claros. Ciudad Media.  Os supermercados estão dispostos nos centros urbanos em locais estratégicos que permitem maior acessibilidade ao estabelecimento, dessa forma, as cidades médias apresentam potencial e complexidade urbana necessários para se tornarem atrativas para as grandes redes de supermercados. Em Montes Claros, cidade média da região intermediária de Montes Claros, estão presentes seis grandes redes de supermercados. Assim, o objetivo desta pesquisa é identificar a localização dos supermercados e quais são as suas implicações na área urbana de Montes Claros/MG. Para isso, foram mapeados os pontos de supermercados e foi gerado o índice de densidade construtiva, que foram associados à base de dados de vias de circulação e população por região de planejamento. O mapeamento mostrou que os supermercados estão localizados nas áreas de maior densidade construtiva e dispostos nas principais vias de acesso.
