Resumo: In the Amazon region, changes in vegetation cover are mainly associated with logging, mineral extraction and agriculture. This conversion of the forest into exposed soil is very recurrent in municipalities in Pará, such as Canaã dos Carajás. Therefore, the article sought to analyze the spatial-temporal dynamics of land use and land cover in this municipality for 30 years, mapping, classifying and quantifying the classes found on the surface, through geotechnologies. Thus, a historical series of land use and land cover maps and statistical graphs that show data on the conversion matrix, persistence analysis and class transition process were elaborated. The results evidenced the transformation of the forest formation into pasture, mining and urban infrastructure classes, these currently occupying more than 50% of the municipality; the livestock activity has greater prominence in the change of landscape in the region and the mining activity served as a catalyst for urban expansion in the municipal headquarters.

Esta conversión de bosque en suelo expuesto es muy recurrente en municipios de Pará, como Canaã dos Carajás. Por lo tanto, el artículo buscó analizar la dinámica espacio-temporal del uso y cobertura del suelo en este municipio a lo largo de 30 años, mapeando, clasificando y cuantificando las clases que se encuentran en la superficie, a través de geotecnologías. Así, se elaboró ​​una serie histórica de mapas de uso y cobertura del suelo y gráficos estadísticos que muestran datos sobre la matriz de conversión, análisis de persistencia y proceso de transición de clases. Los resultados mostraron la transformación de la formación boscosa en clases de pasto, minería e infraestructura urbana, que actualmente ocupan más del 50% del municipio; la actividad ganadera es más destacada en el cambio paisajístico de la región y la actividad minera sirvió como catalizador de la expansión urbana en la cabecera municipal.Na região Amazônica as alterações da cobertura vegetal estão associadas, principalmente, a exploração madeireira, extração mineral e agropecuária. Essa conversão da floresta em solo exposto érecorrente em municípios paraenses, como Canaã dos Carajás. Diante disso, o artigo buscou analisar a dinâmica espaço-temporal do uso e cobertura do solo desse município durante 30 anos, mapeando, classificando e quantificando as classes encontradas na superficie por meio de geotecnologias. Assim, elaborou-se uma série histórica de mapas de uso e cobertura da terra e gráficos estatísticos que exibem dados sobre a matriz de conversão, análise de persistência e processo de transição das classes.
