Considering that the reuse of Oil and Grease Waste-OGW for the production of Biodiesel and other by-products was established at some Brazilian municipalities since the early years in 2000, this article aims to propose a refl ection about this reuse in the city of Montes Claros. There’s a Pilot Project of Garbage Collection and Reuse of wastes in process of deployment in this city for purposes of production of Biodiesel, as well as feed and vegetable soap in the Darcy Ribeiro Biodiesel Plant. As a methodology beyond the bibliographic research for theoretical reasons, we performed a Agência Nacional de Petróleo, Gás Natural e Biocombustíveis – ANP– also in other OGW collection programs already deployed in other municipalities, consultation standards,technical reports and specifi c legislation about the OGW disposal. Finally, we seek to follow the fi rst steps of the Pilot Project deployment through data collection, iconographic records and by interviewing either the Petróleo Brasileiro S/A a segment of Biocombustíveis-PBIO or the Associação de Catadores de Resíduos Sólidos e Líquidos Recicláveis Amigos dos Jovens e do Meio Ambiente-ASCAJOM. We evaluate that not only will the benefi ts of this collection be directly linked to the addition of Biodiesel production, but also in the minimization of environmental degradation and an increased income for collectors.
