Pirapora – Buritizeiro: sketch of a historical analysis of local development

Resumo: Pirapora and Buritizeiro, two cities of Minas Gerais, located in opposing edges of the High São Francisco, that up to 1962 were joined in one same city,present a historical trajectory of sufficiently representative local development of occurred similar processes in the region. They had, in the first half of the century XX, a growth fast associate to its condition of fluvial port and railroad terminal, that declines with new ways of draining of the regional production. One another one occasion of development occurs from the creation of the SUDENE and the offered public incentives that contribute for a expressive economic growth and of the process of urbanization, resulting in equally significant social and ambient impacts. The article analyzes this trajectory since its origins in the colonization process until the search of alternatives through popular projects with recent social and ambient concerns, inside of an exhausting documentary and bibliographical research.

Tiveram, na primeira metade do século XX, um crescimento rápido associado à sua condição de porto fluvial e terminal ferroviário, que declina com novas vias de escoamento da produção regional. Um outro surto de desenvolvimento ocorre a partir da criação da SUDENE e dos incentivos públicos oferecidos que contribuem para um expressivo crescimento econômico e do processo de urbanização, resultando em impactos sociais e ambientais igualmente significativos.
