Space-temporal reconstitution of Alagado Piry de Jussara, Belém-PA: evolution and impact on urbanization

Historically, the city of Belém has dealt with water dynamics, characteristics of the Amazon region. Reports point out that during the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries those who arrived in the city were faced with an overabundance of waters, coming from a flooded area called Alagado do Piry de Jussara. In this sense, the aforementioned study sought, through geoprocessing, to spatially reconstitute the area and the geometry of the flooded, as well as to spatialize the urban occupation over it. Thus, through the elaboration of maps in the years 1631, 1700, 1760, 1791, 1844 and 1905 it was possible to identify that the desiccation works of Piry occurred throughout the 19th century, and that the area that was once occupied by Alagado, today it covers three neighborhoods in the center of Belém, which routinely suffer from floods and floods. Thus, at the end of the study, it is questioned the way in which the managers deal with the overabundance of water in the region, since it was possible to conclude that the city of Belém grew and expanded over the waters, and that until today it tends to live with problems related to the hydrographic factor of the region.
