Application of the Triple Bottom Line Model in a Public Hospital

Resumo: Sustainability is a topic that is being ever more discussed and has been the focus of work and inclusion in many institutions. Given its importance, it has been being proposed for discussion in the Health field This study examined the actions of a Public Hospital focused on applying sustainability to health, through the Triple Bottom Line (TBL) or Tripod Sustainability (Economic, Environmental and Social aspects) models. The purpose of the research was to evaluate the result of the application of TBL model to this hospital. A participatory qualitative research was carried out, considering a Health Institution as a Case Study, where the results of their actions there were verified. With the planning and execution of actions for valorization of staff, awareness and education of staff and users; actions for financial and natural and material resources, the institution has achieved positive results in most aspects of the TBL model, managed to make investments in health care equipment, arose sustainable development and ensured lasting actions for the institution.

Dada su importancia, es que ahora se propone para discusión en el área de la Salud. Este estudio analizó las acciones de un Hospital Público, centrándose en la aplicación de la sostenibilidad en la salud, a través del modelo Triple Bottom Line (TBL) o Trípode de la Sostenibilidad (Aspectos Económicos, Ambientales y Sociales). La pregunta de la investigación fue evaluar el resultado de la aplicación del modelo TBL en este hospital. Fue desarrollada una investigación cualitativa participante, considerándose como Estudio de Caso una Institución de Salud, donde se verificaron los resultados de las acciones efectuadas. Con la planificación y ejecución de acciones para la valorización del personal, la concientización y educación de los funcionarios y usuarios; acciones para la economía de los recursos naturales y financieros, la Institución logró resultados positivos en la mayoría de los aspectos del modelo TBL, consiguió efectuar inversiones en equipos médicos - hospitalarios, despertar el desarrollo sostenible y garantizar acciones duraderas para la Institución. A sustentabilidade é um tema que está em crescente discussão e tem sido foco de trabalhos em muitas instituições. Dada a sua importância, atualmente vem sendo proposta para discussão na área da saúde. Este trabalho analisou as ações de um hospital público voltadas à aplicação da sustentabilidade na saúde, através do modelo triple bottom line (TBL) ou tripé da sustentabilidade, que engloba aspectos econômicos, ambientais e sociais. A questão de pesquisa foi avaliar o resultado da aplicação do modelo TBL nesse hospital. Foi desenvolvida uma pesquisa qualitativa participante, considerando-se como estudo de caso uma instituição de saúde, para verificar os resultados das ações. Com o planejamento e execução de ações para valorização, conscientização e educação dos funcionários e usuários e ações para economia de recursos naturais e financeiros, a instituição alcançou resultados positivos na maioria dos aspectos do modelo TBL, pode investir em equipamentos médico-hospitalares e despertar o desenvolvimento sustentável, além de garantir ações duradouras para a instituição.
