Escalation of Project Information Systems: A Review of the Literature

Resumo: This article seeks to identify the main factors that contribute to project escalation in Information Systems Projects.  The identification of these factors occurred through a literature review on runaway projects, or escalating projects, and analyzing the existing texts in relation to the Brazilian cultural environment. The main theories that explain escalation are analyzed and compared. The main findings of this research include a series of practical recommendations to prevent project escalation. A identificação desses fatores ocorreu por meio de uma revisão bibliográfica sobre projetos intermináveis ou em condição de agravamento, analisando essa literatura em relação ao ambiente cultural brasileiro. As principais teorias que explicam o agravamento são analisadas e comparadas.
