The objective of this studywas to typify the milk production systems in western Paraná through the identification and characterization of the composition of the principal ingredients used in properties in winter and summer, and the magnitude of the effects of this composition on milk composition. In parallel also the effects of food composition on the fatty acid profile of milk from the properties in order to identify the milk with show differentiated with fatty acids profile and the foods responsible for these results were studied. In the first study 735 semistructured interviews with dairy farmers who, through principal component analysis (PCA) and hierarchical cluster analysis (CHA) were divided into five homogeneous groups were conducted. These were randomly selected 10% of producers for on-site visits to the properties, and where the application of a new survey which looked specifics feeding management used the property as well as the collection of milk samples to determine their composition. The collected data were tabulated and feed were ranked based on NRC, to perform again the analysis of hierarchical clustering (AHC), yielding four groups of power systems. After splitting into groups, data production and milk composition were subjected to mean test to check for differences between the three groups of producers in the winter and summer seasons. The municipality of Marechal Cândido Rondon has five groups of dairy production systems, with different technological levels. Similarly, the characterization of production systems formed of four groups, based on the feed composition and the milk yield. There is great variability in fresh forages used while corn silage is the main forage fermented food and concentrate supplementation is adopted by more than 60% of the properties in the two seasons
