The research investigates the relationship between fashion and literature in “Tudo pode ser roubado” (2018) by Giovana Madalosso. The work aims to analyze the creation of the characters' subjectivities through literary aspects and imagistic signs involving their clothing. The guiding question our study focuses on is “How does the description of clothing in the work 'Tudo pode ser roubado' (Madalosso, 2018) contribute to the construction of the characters, considering their identity and social aspects?". To answer this, we used concepts of semiotic symbols and selected the characters Rabudinha, Tiana, and Biel for analysis, as well as excerpts from the novel. The theoretical framework encompasses theories from Cultural Studies, ranging from Ana Carolina Escosteguy (2010) to Stuart Hall (2003, 2016); concepts about fashion and its social aspects discussed by Daniela Calanca (2011) and Frédéric Godart (2010); as well as the understanding of semiotic signs present in the foundations of Charles Sanders Peirce, from the perspective of Lucia Santaella (1983, 2002, 2006). Based on the observations obtained, we realize that fashion plays a significant role in literature, as dressing intensifies the depiction of the characters, as well as reveals hidden parts of themselves.
