Correlation between diagnosis and survival time of breast cancer patients

Resumo: Breast cancer is the most common malignant tumor in women in the world. This is an important public health problem mainly due to its late diagnosis and therefore high mortality. General Objective: To review the medical literature to find studies that correlate the time elapsed between the diagnosis of breast cancer and the start of chemotherapy treatment. Methodology: A bibliographic survey will be conducted in the databases: Latin American and Caribbean Health Sciences Literature (LILACS), PubMed, International Health Sciences Literature (MEDLINE), Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), Information System WHO Library (WHOLIS). The terms "breast cancer" AND "diagnostic time" will be used. Discussion: time since diagnosis and initiation of treatment is a major factor for a longer survival of breast cancer patients. Rapid treatment contributes to better living conditions and lower burden on the health care system. Keywords: Breast neoplasms; early diagnosis; longevity; time factors; prognosis.

Trata-se de um importante problema de saúde pública em virtude, principalmente, do seu diagnóstico tardio e por conseguinte alta mortalidade. Objetivo geral: Realizar uma revisão da literatura médica buscando estudos que correlacionem o tempo transcorrido entre o diagnóstico do câncer de mama  e o início do tratamento quimioterápico. Metodologia: Será realizado um levantamento bibliográfico nas bases de dados: Literatura Latino-Americana e do Caribe em Ciências da Saúde (LILACS), PubMed, Literatura Internacional em Ciências da Saúde (MEDLINE), Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), Sistema de Informação da Biblioteca da OMS (WHOLIS). Serão utilizados os termos “breast cancer” AND “diagnostic time”. Discussão: tempo de diagnóstico e início do tratamento é fator primordial para uma sobrevida maior de pacientes com câncer de mama. O tratamento rápido contribui para melhores condições de vida e menor ônus para o sistema de saúde.
