Resumo: BACKGROUND: Self-esteem is identified as an important factor for productivity in the daily work of public servants. Literature associates the practice of physical exercise with better levels of self-esteem in people. However, recent studies have identified a large reduction in the practice of physical exercise during the Covid-19 pandemic. OBJECTIVE: To analyze possible associations between the level of physical activity and self-esteem of municipal civil servants during the Covid-19 pandemic. METHODS: This is a cross-sectional and quantitative study. The study sample consisted of 44 public servants from a municipality in southern Brazil, with a mean age of 42.2±9.4 years, 38 females (86.4%) and 6 males (13,6%). The International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ - Short Version) and the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale were used as data collection instruments. RESULTS: The results showed a positive and significant correlation between the amount of physical activity performed during the week and the participants’ self-esteem scores (p<0.05). Likewise, the group of civil servants considered physically active had significantly higher self-esteem rates (p<0.05) than civil servants considered non-active. CONCLUSION: Staying physically active is not, in isolation, a sufficient factor to maintain high levels of self-esteem, however, it can contribute to this process.
