Resumo: | BACKGROUND: Although there are studies on the theme of physical education and autism spectrum disorder (ASD) classes, the inclusion process, and its conception according to those who are directly involved in the reality of children with ASD sometimes seem distant.OBJECTIVE: The aim of this research is to verify the importance of Physical Education classes for children with ASD from the perception of their parents/guardians.METHODS: This is qualitative research of descriptive character. Nine parents/guardians of children with ASD participated in the survey by answering a questionnaire through Google Forms. The collected data were analyzed qualitatively.RESULTS: It was found that physical education classes for children with ASD are relevant for motor, cognitive and social development, but there are challenges in achieving teaching, which are: the qualification of professionals; individual characteristics of children with ASD; and social inclusion. It was stated that the classes act/help directly in the interaction with other children, in balance, teamwork and provide a feeling of happiness.CONCLUSION: Physical Education classes enable the development of children with ASD. This process is composed of subjectivities that depend on those who perceive it and the child’s involvement with them, with the environment and with others. |
