Resumo: | The purpose of this essay is to express a reading of Geography, emphasizing the environmental issue. The proposition starts from the discussion about the disciplinary compartmentalization/fragmentation, to deal with the contemporaneousness of the Brazilian Geography, in which the counterpoint between compartmentalization, fragmentation and totality is evident. In order to establish this analytical proposal, location, differentiation, distribution and connection categories are discussed. Finally, the importance of a reorientation in geographic science is emphasized, stressing in the role of the subjects of the analysis. This construction is centered on promoting a reflection on geographic analysis from the totalizing perspective, in this case, in discussions about the environmental issue. In this sense, totality/totalization is approached as a process that distinguishes constituents in the analysis, without, however, disregarding the connections. It is the result of reflections started from Suertegaray (1988) and continued in the NEGA / UFRGS (since 2003), which are revealed more particularly in this article, through the debate between their authors from their experiences in research and in extension, with the traditional people, especially, the riverside communities. |
