Resumo: Este artigo analisa uma notícia do jornal paraense “Folha do Norte”, da segunda metade do século XIX, na qual nos deparamos com um relato sobre uma mulher negra chamada “tia Carolina”, popular por seus ofícios de cartomancia e feitiçaria, necessários para enfrentar o racismo e a desigualdade social daquela época, mesmo com a abolição da escravidão. Este estudo pretende contribuir para a implementação de políticas de reparação à população afrodescendente.
