Resistance to primary prevention and early detection of cervical cancer

Resumo: Objective: This paper is aimed at discussing the risks and difficulties found in the prevention and early detection of cervical cancer among the Brazilian population. Methods: The descriptive methodology used in this work is based on bibliographic research. Results: It is necessary to expand the notion of risk, as the HPV is considered to be a necessary cause of cervical cancer. Other causes are also discussed: gender issues, self-care and self-respect. The primary prevention is discussed as well, and focuses on the advantages and difficulties of the use of condoms. In addition, making an appointment with a health care provider helps early detection of cervical cancer, which has proven to be a successful tool against the disease. Conclusion: Cervical cancer is still harmful to women’s health. Although there are political strategies to fight against cervical cancer, the disease remains a serious problem for the Brazilian Health Care System. Cervical cancer is one of the leading causes of death in Brazil, and even though the strategies for primary prevention and early detection are well known, cervical cancer is still haunting women worldwide. Women’s Health.Objetivo: Discutir o risco e as dificuldades encontradas que resistem as estratégias de prevenção primária e detecção precoce do câncer do colo do útero na população brasileira. Método: Os rumos metodológicos foram descritivos, tratando-se de pesquisa bibliográfica. Resultados: Aponta para a necessidade de ampliar a noção de risco, que hoje já considera o HPV como causa necessária e discute outros fatores na gênese desta neoplasia, como questões de gênero, autocuidado e respeito próprio. Aborda a prevenção primária focando a utilização do preservativo, suas vantagens e as dificuldades encontradas para seu uso. Trata da detecção precoce do câncer do colo do útero exaltando a consulta de enfermagem em ginecologia como valioso instrumento contra este mal. Conclusão: O câncer do colo do útero é, ainda hoje, sério agravo a saúde da mulher e embora existam estratégias governamentais para enfrentá-lo, ainda figura como sério problema de saúde pública no Brasil. Esta entre as principais causas de morte no país e mesmo conhecendo as estratégias para prevenção primária e detecção precoce, ainda permanece como fantasma para a mulher em todo o mundo.
