Resumo: This study reports on an ethnographic investigation about young learners’ beliefs regarding English as foreign language (EFL) learning. Studies on beliefs about EFL teaching and learning in Brazil has been frequently carried out (BARCELOS, 2001, 2005, 2006; ABRAHÃO, 2006; BASSO, 2006). However, there is little investigation about young learners’ beliefs when studying a foreign language. Therefore, in order to identify 22 children’s beliefs, they were asked to draw about what they understand by learning EFL. These children are six to ten years old, and have studied English in a private course for eight months. The drawings showed that for these young learners, songs, games, readings and conversation are highlighted activities during the classes. Moreover, it was identified that learning EFL is also important for traveling and talking with foreign people.
