Resumo: This essay aims to examine, from the perspective of institutional and structuration theories, three schools of strategy defined in the book “Strategy Safari”, by Mintzberg, Ahlstrand e Lampel (2000), and propose an alternative to investigate the construct strategy. The criteria used to select three among ten schools handled by the work took into account aspects aligned with organizational institutionalism. The first school analyzed was the entrepreneur school, which focuses on social actor, once it is admitted that he is able to affect the structure. Next, it was analyzed the position school that considers generic strategies to be implemented by organizations. Finally, to view the inter-subjective dimension, the cognitive school was analyzed because addresses the mental processes collectivized to set strategic action. From the definition of this theoretical framework, this paper presents a new model to explain the formation of strategy from institutional and structural perspective, which is the main result of the work. The challengeis conducting empirical studies that describe this process from case studies that seek to explain the structureof strategyas a social practice at micro level of analysis.

O critério utilizado para selecionar três entre as dez escolas tratadas na obra levou em conta aspectos que se alinham com o institucionalismo organizacional. A primeira escola analisada foi a empreendedora que está centrada no ator social, uma vez que a ele é admitida a possibilidade de afetar a estrutura. Em seguida, analisou-se a de posicionamento, que considera estratégias genéricas para serem implementadas pelas organizações. E, finalmente, para visualizar a dimensão intersubjetiva, a escola analisada foi a cognitiva, que aborda processos mentais coletivizados para configurar a ação estratégica. A partir da delimitação deste quadro teórico, o artigo apresenta um novo modelo para explicar a formação da estratégia pela perspectiva institucional e estrutural de análise, sendo este o principal resultado do trabalho.
