Resumo: This research analyzed the potentialities and limitations of the use of information and communication technology (ICT) on the performance of road freight transportation service. The study was built on a qualitative approach. It involved the participation of eight executives (transportation, finance, controller and information technology managers) of two nationally recognized companies that provide the transportation service. The main results highlight the identification of: a set of transportation service performance indicators in use by companies; the contributions of  ICTs in improving the results of these indicators; and internal and external barriers to the adoption and use of ICTs.

Basado en el enfoque cualitativo, el estudio contó con la participación de ocho ejecutivos (gestión de transporte, finanzas, control y tecnología de la información) de dos empresas, reconocidas a nivel nacional, proveedoras de servicios. Los principales resultados fueran la identificación de: un conjunto de indicadores de desempeño de servicio de transporte utilizado en las empresas; las contribuciones de las TICs en uso en la mejora de los resultados de estos indicadores; y las barreras internas y externas para adopción y uso de las TICs.Esta pesquisa objetivou analisar as potencialidades e os limitadores do uso de tecnologias da informação e comunicação (TIC) para o desempenho do serviço de transporte rodoviário de cargas. Fundamentado na abordagem qualitativa, o estudo envolveu a participação de oito executivos (gestores de transporte, finanças, controladoria e tecnologia da informação) de duas empresas reconhecidas nacionalmente, prestadoras do serviço.
