Resumo: | Memory has a main role concerning mankind’s construction and perception. And, between many other aspects, photography is a container for memory, due to its value as an index, a trace, as says Phillipe Dubois, beyond a merely functional need of amplifying our mental capacity of storing information. It does a social function, on a documentation sense, registering and preserving na either collective or individual memory, may it be in public or private archives. The utilization of this files in contemporary art, opens to the artists the possibility of understanding a photographic image as a transformation/interpretation of reality, ignoring it as a sudden technology under reality’s command. Beginning by means as collections, appropriations, constructions and recons tructions – re articulations of photography, artists adulterate its sense, avoiding image’s documentation valor, building inside out a new meaning, each one on his own way, existing images which contemporary world is used to. |

A fotografía contém, entre outros aspectos, o de “depósito” da memória, devido a seu valor como índice, como vestígio, tal como argumenta Phillipe Dubois, além do carácter funcional de ampliar nossa capacidade mental de armazenar informações. Desempenha uma função social, no sentido de documentar, registrar e preservar a memória coletiva e individual, em arquivos públicos ou privados. A utilização desses documentos na arte contemporânea, possibilita aos artistas compreender a imagem fotográfica como uma transformação-interpretação do real, ignorando-a como uma tecnologia a serviço da realidade.
