On the metaphorical/literal dichotomy: rethinking the issue of primacy

Resumo: In this paper we aim to rethink the metaphorical/literal dichotomy trying, at the same time, to weaken it and to point to the impossibility of it being overcome, at least in certain sense. In order to do so, we consider some important reflections already made along the history of Western thought, giving a particular emphasis to the remarks by Jacques Derrida on that theme. Finally, we assert that the search for a more original or fundamental sense to which language should, ultimately, remit, always implicates, paradoxically, in the production of new senses whose prolixity is not possible to stop. That prolixity, on the other hand, manifests itself only as a proposition of a new beginning ¾ a saying that establishes itself concretely.

Para esto, consideramos algunas reflexiones importantes hechas ya a lo largo de la historia del pensamiento occidental, dando especial énfasis a las observaciones aportadas por Jacques Derrida en ese tema. Finalmente, afirmamos que la búsqueda para un sentido más original o más fundamental, a el cual la lengua deba remitir, implica, en última instancia, siempre, paradójicament, en la producción de nuevos sentidos cuia prolixidad no es posible barrar. Esa prolixidad, por su parte, se manifiesta solamente como proposición de un nuevo principio – de un hablar que se instaura concretamente.Dans cet article, on a essayé de repenser à la dichotomie métaphorique / littérale,  cherchant, en même temps, à la relativiser et signaler  l’impossibilité, au moins dans un certain sens, de sa soumission. Pour une telle démarche, on a utilisé quelques réflexions importantes, déjà évoluées, tout au long de l’histoire de l’occident, en faisant remarquer les  notions données sur ce sujet par Jacques Derrida. Enfin, on essayera d’affirmer que la recherche d’un sens plus original ou fondamental auquel le langage devrait, sur les instances, remettre, puisqu’il implique toujours, paradoxalement, dans la production de nouveaux sens, dont la prolixité n’est pas possible d’être retenue. Cette prolixité, en outre, s’exprime seulement quand il s’agit d’une proposition d’un nouveau commencement – d’un dire qui s’instaure concrètement.Neste artigo, procuramos repensar a dicotomia metafórico/literal tentando, ao mesmo tempo, relativizá-la e apontar para a impossibilidade, pelo menos em certo sentido, da sua superação. Para tanto, valemo-nos de algumas reflexões importantes já avançadas ao longo da história do pensamento ocidental, dando uma ênfase particular às colocações feitas sobre esse tema por Jacques Derrida. Afirmaremos, enfim, que a busca por um sentido mais original ou fundamental a que a linguagem deveria, em última instância, remeter, implica sempre, paradoxalmente, na produção de novos sentidos cuja prolixidade não é possível deter.
