To be or not to be “country of the future”, that is a discursive question

Resumo: In this article, we analyze Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff's pronouncement about the statement “Brazil, a country of the future”, which is seen as constituent of the national imaginary. Based on the discourse analysis orientation of Michel Pêcheux, we investigate the memory and also the sense relationships that emerge from the enunciation. Bringing reflections from Orlandi (2012) about gesture interpretations and Castoriadis (1987) about the development as imaginary signification. We present that when the discourse, replies to the supposed negative image about the country created by the enunciation it perpetuates such representation. Therefore, the sense goes to one direction (politics).

Trayendo reflexiones como la de Orlandi (2012) sobre gestos de interpretación y de Castoriadis (1987) sobre desarrollo como significación imaginaria, mostramos que el referido discurso, al contestar la supuesta imagen negativa sobre el país, construida por el enunciado, perpetúa tal representación.
