Resumo: Results from a research that investigated the probabilistic distribution of rhetorical relations of 150 authorial opinion articles, taken from Brazilian newspapers, are discussed here, considering the occurrence of continuity means and the relations established among levels of information. Enrique Bernárdez’ proposal, which links the RST model (Rhetorical Structure Theory) to the idea that the textual organization can be understood as a series of continuity means, labeled with the RST relations, was used to carry out this study. It was verified that the distribution of means and relations follows probabilistic criteria; the opinion articles have a prototypical configuration, considering their macro-structural rhetorical organization, noticed through the higher probability of the occurrence of certain means and relations rather than others, which have zero probability of occurrence; the producer’s strategic choices can be seen as actions to ensure the communicative goal of the opinion article in the prototypical context of the newspaper.

Se observan la ocurrencia de vías de continuidad y de relaciones que se establecen entre niveles de información. Se utilizó la propuesta de E. Bernárdez, que vincula el modelo RST (Rhetorical Structure Theory) a la idea de que la organización textual puede ser entendida como una serie de vías de continuidad, etiquetadas con las relaciones de la RST. Se verificó que la distribución de vías y de relaciones sigue criterios probabilísticos; los artículos de opinión tienen configuración prototípica, considerando su organización retórica macro estructural, observando la mayor probabilidad de ocurrir determinadas vías y relaciones que otras que tienen probabilidad cero de ocurrir. Y también que las elecciones estratégicas del productor pueden ser consideradas como acciones para asegurar el final comunicativo del artículo de opinión en el contexto prototípico del periódico.Dans cet article, on discute les résultats d’une recherche qui a cherché à découvrir la distribution probabilistique des relations rhétoriques de 150 articles d’opinion d’auteurs recueillis de journaux brésiliens, en observant l’occurence de voies de continuité et des relations qui s’établissent parmi les niveaux d’information. On a adopté la proposition de E. Bernárdez, qui relie le modèle RST (Rhetorical Structure Theory) à l’idée qui préconise que l’organisation textuelle peut être comprise comme une série de voies de continuité, étiquetées avec les relations de la RST. On a constaté que la distribution de voies et de relations suit des critères probabilistiques; les articles d’opinion ont une configuration prototypique, dans le sens de leur organisation rhétorique macrostructurelle, en considérant la plus grande probabilité d’avoir lieu certaines voies et relations et aucune probabilité d’arriver à certaines relations; les choix stratégiques du producteur peuvent être considérés comme des actions pour assurer le but communicatif de l’article d’opinion dans le contexte prototypique du journal.Discutem-se resultados de uma pesquisa que investigou a distribuição probabilística das relações retóricas de 150 artigos de opinião autorais retirados de jornais brasileiros, observando a ocorrência de vias de continuidade e de relações que se estabelecem entre níveis de informação. Adotou-se a proposta de E. Bernárdez, que vincula o modelo RST (Rhetorical Structure Theory) à idéia de que a organização textual pode ser entendida como uma série de vias de continuidade, etiquetadas com as relações da RST.
