Resumo: The aim of the present work is to build a panoramic view of the evolution of Rhetoric and Stylistics. We will start with Aristotle, moving through the changing ideas of the eighteenth century, up to the twentieth century. Next, we will focus on the characteristics that enable the differentiation between Literary and General Stylistics. And, finally, we will show Style and Stylistics in the twentieth century. Through this account we hope to contribute to a better understanding of language from a stylistic perspective.

Haremos el trayecto pasando por Aristóteles, por los cambios de ideas del siglo XVIII hasta llegar al siglo XX. En seguida la atención es dirigida a las características que permiten diferenciar Estilística Literaria y General. Finalmente, mostraremos el Estilo y la Estilística en el siglo XX. Con esa exposición, esperamos poder contribuir para una mejor comprensión de la actividade de lenguaje en una perspectiva estilística.L'objectif de ce travaiI est celui d'offrir une vue panoramique et évolutive de la Rhétorique et de la StyIistique. On fera le parcours depuis Aristote, envisageant les changements d' idées du VXIIIe. siècle, jusqu' au XXe. siècle. Ensuite on identifiera les caractéristiques permettant de distinguer la Stylistique Littéraire et la Stylistique Générale. Et finalement on montrera les contours du Style et de la Stylistique au Xxe. siècle. Avec cet exposé on s'attend à contribuer à une compréhension plus précise de l'activité de langage du point de vue de la Stylistique.O objetivo do presente trabalho é possibilitar uma visão panorâmica e evolutiva sobre Retórica e Estilística. Faremos o percurso passando por Aristóteles, pelas mudanças de idéias do séc. XVIII, até chegarmos ao séc. XX. A seguir, o enfoque será dirigido para as características que permitem diferenciar Estilística Literária e Geral. E, finalmente, mostraremos o Estilo e a Estilística no séc. XX.
