“Did Senator Arruda consult, require or command?” An analysis of the speech acts used at a Senate judgment

Resumo: A recent event marked Brazilian history: the judgment of two influential senators accused of violating the secrecy of the senate electronic voting panel. In the media coverage of the event, the use of three speech acts played a prominent role: “to consult”, “to request” and “to command.” Thus, in this article these speech acts and their illocutionary force are analyzed, together with an investigation on how the choice for each speech act did influence the outcome of the events.

En el discurso de la media sobre la divulgación de lo ocurrido, el uso de tres actos de habla fue preponderante: consultar, pedir y ordenar. Así siendo, analizamos esos tres actos de habla con sus respectivas fuerzas elocucionarias e investigamos cómo la opción por uno de ellos repercutiría el remate de los acontecimientos.L'histoire brésilienne a été marquée récemment par um événement important: le jugement de deux sénateurs puissants accusés d'avoir violé le panneau électronique de votation du Sénat. Dans la divulgation de l'événement par les médias on pouvait constater la prédominance des trois actes de paroles suivants: consulter, demander et ordonner. Dans cet article ces trois actes de parole et leur force ilocutionnaire sont analysés ainsi bien que l'influence de leur choix respectif sur le résultat de l'événement. Recentemente, na história brasileira, houve um acontecimento marcante muito divulgado pela imprensa: o julgamento de dois influentes senadores acusados de violação do painel eletrônico de votação do senado. No discurso da mídia sobre a divulgação do acontecimento, o uso de três atos de fala foi preponderante: consultar, pedir e ordenar.
