Resumo: The vaccine against the new coronavirus is an alternative to reduce the indicators of morbidity and mortality and hospitalization, concentrated, in particular, in patients aged over 60 years. The work aims to analyze the impact of vaccination against SARS-CoV-2 on the hospitalization and mortality rate of elderly patients in the period 2021-2022 in the state of Alagoas, Brazil. The study is quantitative, observational, cross-sectional and retrospective. Statistically, descriptive analyzes were performed. The variables used were: cases, deaths, hospitalizations and vaccination of patients aged 60 years or older. The data used are public and obtained from government repositories. Alagoas accumulates 30.071 confirmed cases and 4.628 deaths among the elderly by COVID-19. As for vaccination, the state applied 5.927.331 doses, with the elderly responsible for 33,84% with three doses or more. It is possible to observe a reduction in the rate of new confirmed cases, hospitalization and deaths from COVID-19 when correlated with immunization. It is observed that Alagoas reduced the incidence of new cases, hospitalization and deaths from COVID-19 as the vaccination campaign advanced. The findings suggest a contribution of immunization in the course of the disease, especially in the control of severe cases and mortality.
