Comparison of proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation techniques in the respiratory function of individuals with Parkinson’s disease

Resumo: Introduction: Parkinson's disease (PD) is a chronic and neurodegenerative pathology, characterized by tremor, bradykinesia, stiffness and postural instability, through disease progression, of multifactorial character, the respiratory system presents dysfunctions. Objective: To compare the immediate effect of respiratory proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PF) and scapula and pelvis on the respiratory function of individuals with Parkinson's disease. Materials and methods: A randomized, simple, blind clinical trial was conducted at the Physiotherapy School of the Universidade Luterana do Brasil-ULBRA/Canoas, with a sample of 12 individuals, diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. They signed the Free and Informed Consent Form and were evaluated through the Mini-examination of mental status (MMSE), the Hoehn and Yahr Modified scale, inspiratory capacity, peak expiratory flow and maximum inspiratory and expiratory pressures. Afterwards, they were allocated by lot to Group A (respiratory FNP) and Group B (scapular and pelvic FNP). Results: Respiratory FNP proved to be effective in the respiratory parameters evaluated, being statistically significant (p<0.05), as well as scapular and pelvis FNP for inspiratory capacity (p=0.041). The comparison between the two groups showed that respiratory PNP was more effective, although not statistically significant. Conclusion: Both techniques were effective in increasing inspiratory capacity, but the technique of respiratory PNF was also effective in increasing peak expiratory flow and maximum inspiratory and expiratory pressures.

Materialesy métodos : Se realizó un ensayo clínico aleatorizado, simple y ciego en la Facultad de Fisioterapia de la Universidade L uteran a d o Brasil ULBRA Canoas, con una muestra de 12 individuos, diagnosticados de enfermedad de Parkinson. Firmaron el Formulario de Consentimient o Libre e Informado y fueron evaluados a través del Mini examen del estado mental (MMSE), la escala modifi cada d e Hoe h n y Yahr, capacidad inspiratoria, flujo espiratorio pico y presiones inspiratorias y espiratorias máximas. Posteriormente se asignaron por sorteo al Grupo A (PAF respiratoria) y al Grupo B (PAF escapular y pélvica). Resultados : La FNP respirato ria de m ostr ó ser efectiva en los parámetros respiratorios evaluados, siendo estadísticamente significativa (p <0,05), así como la FNP escapular y pelv is para la capacidad inspiratoria (p = 0,041). La comparación entre los dos grupos mostró que la PNP respiratoriafue más efectiva, aunque no estadísticamente significativa. Materiais e métodos: Ensaio clínico randomizado, simples cego, realizado na Clínica Escola de Fisioterapia da Universidade Luterana do Brasil-ULBRA/Canoas, com uma amostra de 12 indivíduos, com diagnóstico de Doença de Parkinson. Os mesmos assinaram o Termo de Consentimento Livre e Esclarecido e foram avaliados através do Miniexame do Estado Mental (MEEM), da escala de Hoehn e Yahr Modificada, capacidade inspiratória, pico de fluxo expiratório e pressões inspiratória e expiratória máximas. Após, foram alocados por sorteio em Grupo A (FNP respiratório) e Grupo B (FNP de escápula e pelve). Resultados: O FNP respiratório se mostrou eficaz nos parâmetros respiratórios avaliados, sendo estatisticamente significativo (p<0,05), assim como o FNP de escápula e pelve para a capacidade inspiratória (p=0,041). Já a comparação entre os dois grupos mostrou que o FNP respiratório foi mais eficaz, apesar de não apresentar significância estatística.
