Subinclusion in peripheral modernity: a systemic analysis of the coercitive incarceratory power of the Brazilian State

This article uses the theory of social systems to describe the situation of the Brazilian peripheral state in relation to its prison population. In this way, the main objective of the research is to analyze the sub-included from the periphery and how they are much more susceptible to being placed before the coercive power of the State and its restrictive effects on freedom, based on an analysis of data on the prison population between the years from 2021-2022. Therefore, the main issue is whether the cumulative exclusion of the peripheral population results in “marginality” and, therefore, dependence on the benefits of the different functional systems of society, without direct access to them (benefits). That is, if the “sub-citizens” are much more exposed to the punitive power of the State and its violence. The chosen methodology is based on a systemic observation. However, at the end of the work, it intertwines with criminology in search of empirical material to observe the phenomena of incarceration and the lethality of the State, which configures one of the central themes of a criminological thought that has as its objective the effectiveness of fundamental rights and humans.
