Since the emergence of universities, there has been a need to move students from their hometowns to the centers where universities were set up. Currently, this displacement continues, causing people to seek universities outside their city, state or country to attend higher education courses, and many of these students choose to establish housing in the city where the university is located, depending on distance or difficulty in daily movement. In this way, many universities offer student housing to students from other cities, facilitating their establishment and adaptation to the new life far from the family. Therefore, this research sought to know the student housing of some countries in Europe and the United States and some regions of Brazil in order to understand their space organization and how it contributes to the development of a sense of community among the resident students and, consequently, their adaptation to this new stage of academic life.
