Biossegurança: protocolos, riscos, acidentes e condutas: um ano de implantação dos protocolos de clínicas da Faculdade de Odontologia de Araçatuba-FOA/UNESP

The incidence of diseases such as acquired immunodeficiency syndrome and hepatitis B and C make that there was an increasing focus on disease prevention, thus emphasizing the importance of biosafety measures and among these are technical measures, administrative, educational, medical and psychological. In this sense, the development of clear protocols for biological accident has alerted health professionals about the occupational hazards, especially as regards the procedures to be followed after an accident. To standardize the clinical and laboratory procedure, Faculty of Dentistry of Araçatuba (FOA) implemented, in 2009, protocols for dental clinics, aiming to provide dental care throughout a community with more quality and reduce the risk of accidents and cross infection. Considering these aspects, this study aimed to trace the profile of biological accident and suffered a work accident, comparing the cases of the city of Araçatuba and the ones in the FOA, before and after the implementation of protocols clinics. The information was obtained from a database of the Department of Health and Public Hygiene of the city of Araçatuba. The results indicated that most of the victims were female, they had 26 to 35 years old and they had a high school degree. The most common exposure was the percutaneous, usually caused by needle lumen and on unspecified circumstances. After the establishment of clinical protocols, there was an increase in the number of accidents recorded in the FOA, demonstrating that the implementation of these protocols has reached its goal, raising community awareness of the FOA and the necessity of notification of accidents
