Reflexões sobre o uso de filmes no ensino de Biologia

Audiovisual media, when used in the school context, are intended to illustrate a discourse by promoting the association of ideas in the exposition of a subject, and may also make the class more relaxed and interesting. In order to understand the limits and possibilities of the use of films for Biology teaching, this research was developed with secondary school students from a public school in the city of Rio Claro. A didactic activity was organized with the exhibition of the film Jurassic World. Questionnaires were applied before and after the exhibition, in order to capture students' perceptions about the content of the film and also about its use in Biology classes. In addition, semi-structured interviews were made, to analyze the impressions of Biology teachers about the potentiality and viability of this resource in their classes. The data indicate good reception of the resource in didactic activities, emphasizing that the images and sequences of the film are positive elements for the remembrance of concepts or their contextualization, even considering fictional aspects of the cinematographic work. The film expands the notion of reality through an association between fictional aspects and visual veracity, allowing even ethical discussions about the limits and possibilities of Science. Teachers point out an insufficiency in the films, mentioning the need for a preparation before its exhibition, to clarify its coherence with subjects that can be approached for the Biology teaching. They consider the film as a potentially useful resource in their didactic activities
