Avaliação do índice de fraturas pediátricas no serviço de cirurgia e traumatologia bucomaxilofacial da Faculdade de Odontologia de Araçatuba: estudo retrospectivo

The aim of this study was a retrospective study of twenty patients treated at the Maxillofacial Surgery and Traumatology Service of the Department of Surgery and Integrated Clinic Araçatuba Dental School - UNESP and thus verify incidence, etiology, gender and age group children who have suffered some type of fracture in the maxillofacial region. To that end, we conducted a survey of medical records, which should be within the eligibility criteria adopted for the study and were thus obtained data of patients aged 0 to 12 years. Of the 312 medical records analyzed in 263 (84%) was recorded the presence of some facial fracture. The information was scanned and properly tabulated. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS 20.0 program. The Qui-square test was used for comparison between groups and Pearson's correlation to verify the association between variables. The results have been properly analyzed and discussed, in a way that at the end of the study it can be concluded that despite being a small part of the population victim of facial trauma, there was a high number of cases among the patients evaluated. The highest incidence of fractures was recorded in boys (64%), where the range of 6 years old was the most affected, with 32 cases (12.2%). The main source of trauma was related to high-impact events, such as traffic accidents, which caused the prevalence of fractures in the middle third of the face
