Percepção dos acadêmicos de Odontologia frente à imunização contra o vírus da hepatite B

The objective was to evaluate the knowledge of scholars of dental undergraduate course in the ways of prevention and transmission of hepatitis B. It is a descriptive study of transversal character. The participants were 153 students of 3rd, 4th and 5th year of full and nighttime periods of Araçatuba Dental School (FOA) - SP, in 2013. The instrument used was a semi-structured questionnaire which was about hepatitis B. It was approved by the Ethics Committee in Research of the Faculty of Dentistry Aracatuba (Case No 632067) and for the statistical analysis was used the Microsoft Excel program. Of the total respondents, 77% are already in clinical activity at least one year and a maximum of three years. When asked what causes hepatitis B, 68% answered that it is caused by virus, but 19% did not know or did not answer this question and 13% answered as it was transmitted and not caused; however, 95% said they had received guidance on the subject. In relation vaccination 92% confirmed the completion of the same and of these only 27% had anti-HBs examination. The result was negative in 47% of who were examined. When asked about the knowledge of Anti-HBS survey, 59% reported not knowing the significance of this. 18% of respondents have suffered accidents during clinical care and of these 64% said they followed the accident protocol with sharp punch, but only 50% sought UBS recommended by the institution. We conclude that the knowledge of academics is flawed in many ways and most are not knowing what action to take before, during and after contact with the HBV virus
