Imunização contra a hepatite B: responsabilidade e autocuidado em saúde na ótica dos cirurgiões dentistas

The aim was to assess the attitude and knowledge of Public Service Dental Surgeons on hepatitis B disease. In addition, check immunization and disease prevention. This is a quantitative descriptive cross-sectional study, carried out with dental surgeons from two dental specialty centers (CEO) of two municipalities, one small and one medium-sized. Data collection was performed in two stages. In the first stage, a survey questionnaire was used with questions structured to dental surgeons, addressing variables related to socio-educational aspects, questions on the topic of hepatitis B, vaccination and immunization against HBV. In the second stage, rapid tests based on immunochromatographic technology (ICT format or lateral flow) were performed, allowing the detection of HBs antibodies in serum, plasma or whole blood. The whole blood was collected by digital puncture. The sample consisted of 18 professionals. When questioned about the cause of hepatitis B, 88.89% of the professionals were right. About knowledge of the anti hbs test 11.11% reported not knowing what it means. With regard to vaccination, 100% of professionals reported taking the vaccine and 72.22% of these dental surgeons took all three doses. The anti-hbs test result was positive for immunization in 66.67% of the professionals. From this study, it is concluded that from the knowledge of the disease until its complete vaccination, it has several faults. This proves the lack of information on most dental surgeons in not knowing how to properly immunize. Campaigns are indicated for professionals who did not or did not complete the vaccination schedule
