Resumo: The teaching in dental schools should include in their curriculum issues related to the disposal of waste from health service (RSS). The benefit of the RSS classification is possible in a better handling of the materials such as 2% glutaraldehyde, used for the disinfection of dental materials made by students and workers, it is an extremely toxic substance to the health care professional and to the environment when disposed of incorrectly, and fix organic matter in instrumental when not washed prior properly. The objective of the present work to evaluate the knowledge and attitude of students in Araçatuba Dental School about RSS disposal. Obtained the approval of the ethics committee in research. It is a cross-sectional descriptive study. It was used for data collection a survey with open and closed questions on the subject. Considering the results of the study, the students knowledge is still deficient and attitude is not appropriate, therefore, it is essential an awareness of them to a responsible practice

O benefício da classificação dos RSS está em possibilitar uma melhor manipulação dos materiais como a do glutaraldeído a 2%, utilizado na desinfecção de materiais odontológicos feito por alunos e trabalhadores, que se trata de uma substância extremamente tóxica ao profissional de saúde e ao meio ambiente quando descartados de forma incorreta, além de fixar matéria orgânica nos instrumentais quando não lavados prévia e adequadamente. Objetivou-se no presente trabalho avaliar o conhecimento e atitude dos alunos da Faculdade de Odontologia de Araçatuba sobre o descarte de RSS. Obteve-se a aprovação do Comitê de ética em pesquisa. Trata-se de um estudo descritivo transversal. Utilizou-se para coleta de dados um inquérito com questões abertas e fechadas sobre o tema.
