Percepção da aparência dental e expectativa dos usuários atendidos na Faculdade de Odontologia de Araçatuba

Objectives: The aim of this study was to investigate the subjective aspects related to the perception of dental appearance and expectations of patients who receive dental treatment in clinics graduate at College of Dentistry, UNESP Aracatuba. Methods: This research was conducted by a questionnaire in patients attending clinics graduation FOA-UNESP. It was evaluated 362 patients of both gender aged over 18 and divided into 5 groups accordingly to the age. The questionnaire contained questions considering demographic data (gender, age, and educational level), questions to assess facial aesthetics and dental satisfaction with cosmetic dental treatments and questions of wanted to improve dental aesthetics. The data collected were analyzed using descriptive statistics and qui-square to assess the association between variables. Results: The results showed that the factor teeth for facial analysis and factor considered when positioning the arch smile were considered the most important questions regarding the aesthetic cited by respondents. The level of dissatisfaction was high, 67.5% of patients were dissatisfied with the appearance of their teeth, and dissatisfaction with the color the most important factor (66.8%). The treatment was the most desired tooth whitening, and 85% of patients said yes to treatment. Positive correlation was verified between age and kind of rehabilitation treatment, education level and whitening treatment. Conclusion: Respondents place great value on the appearance of the teeth face, and it can be seen that the aesthetic treatments are highly valued in all age groups. There is a need for treatments to function, but treatments to improve dental appearance were the most requested and is of great interest of the interviewed population access to them
