Resumo: In equideoculture there is a need to improve the reproductive efficiency for a greater exploitatin of the animals. Superovulation in mares would facilitate the biotechnologies of existing reproduction, increasing production gains. In mare, many follicles initiate the maturation process, but usually have a single ovulated due to inhibition of follicle stimulating hormone release. Therefore, maintaining high concentrations of this circulating hormone could increase ovulation rates per cycle. Some substances with this hormone have already proved effective for superovulation of mares, but as their supplies became difficult to acquire, a recombinant equine follicle stimulating hormone was developed as an alternative. Based on this, this systematic literature review was developed with the objective of evaluating the hypothesis that the use of recombinant equine follicle stimulating hormone is effective for mares superovulation. Several databases were analyzed through CAPES Journals Portal, using two search strategies with the descriptors mare and reFSH, superovulation or multiple ovulations. The inclusion criteria were: publications related to the subject, which presented the design of the randomized clinical trial, published in English, resulted in seven articles. Even though the recombinant equine follicle stimulating hormone in most experiments has been shown to be effective for superovulation in mares, in order to arrive a more reliable conclusion on the subject, there is a need to carry out more scientific trials with better scientific quality that have protocols, seasonality of mares and standardized groups compared.
