Resumo: | Resistance training (RT) is highly recommended for prevention and reversal of excessive fat accumulation, as it increases energy expenditure and muscle mass, factors that influence the daily energy balance. The great advantage of resistance training is the ability to increase daily energy expenditure after the training session, this is attributed to the stress condition generated by the effort that requires energy to return to the baseline condition. Resistance training is composed of several variables and techniques that when manipulated can influence energy expenditure during and after the session. Therefore, the incorporation of RT into an exercise routine is essential for weight loss as well as its prescription since obesity is one of the biggest health problems in the world, characterized by abnormal and / or excessive accumulation of fat in the adipose tissue, and may present several health risks. Generally, this condition is due to a state of sedentarism that favors the weight gain. Therefore, to change this framework it is necessary to incorporate a physical activity in the daily routine. The objective of this work is to review in the bibliography how the manipulation of these variables can induce a greater energy expenditure. For this purpose, studies were conducted in the main databases (SciElo, PubMed and ResearchGate) that compared the energy expenditure of different resistance training sessions. The results obtained show that resistance training increases the energy expenditure as well as the basal metabolic rate. In general, circuit training is done with 8 alternating exercises per segment (upper and lower), 10 to 20 repetitions with 40 to 60% 1RM and rests of up to 30, and require an average of 200 to 300 kcal...
