Narratives of trans men: a discourse analysis on Facebook

Resumo: Objective: The study analyses the use of a social network as a tool for activism of a group situated in the margins of the current political scenario of Brazil. It aims to reveal the narratives of trans men on Facebook as constructed within the group “Homens trans e simpatizantes” (Trans men and allies). Methods: It uses the Discourse Analysis, in order to develop qualitative research. Results: It was identified that the narratives involved questions related to family, health, and prejudice. The context of the trans men’s narratives remained the same in relation to the previous studies, when not, it worsened in terms of the positiveness, which directly influences in the way these subjects are understood and act in society. Conclusions: It was concluded that social media is important for activism and the socialization of experiences of these subjects in information environments.
