Um Estudo de caso sobre a participação de alunos do 6º ano do ensino fundamental em uma pesquisa estatística

The National Curriculum Parameters (BRASIL, 1998) argue that one of the goals of Statistics is to make the student construct procedures to collect, organize, and communicate data using graphs, tables, and representations that appear frequently in their daily lives. Thinking about how the student deals with these procedures, this paper presents the results of a qualitative research, in which a case study was conducted, whose objective was to verify how the participation of a group of 6th grade students took place Of Primary School, enrolled in a state public school, located in the city of Guaratinguetá - SP, in a statistical research. The works for construction and data collection were developed over three meetings, each of them lasting two classes of 50 minutes. The first meeting was marked by the elaboration of a statistical problem, which was discussed on the best way to collect the data, and then the students started this process. In the second meeting the students continued collecting the data and started a discussion about how best to organize them. The third meeting was characterized by the organization of the data collected in tables and graphs, as well as the interpretation of the results. All classes were recorded for later analysis. The results indicate that the students already presented indications of notions of proportionality, measures of central tendency, census and sample, even without naming such concepts, which contributed significantly to the success of the present study
