Resumo: | The use of visual and somatosensory information (light touch) is important to provide better postural stability in adults on maintaining standing posture. Still, visual (moving room) and somatosensory (touch bar) information produce corresponding body oscillation. Therefore, sensory information is directly related with postural control behavior. Recently, light touch is being used to examine the relationship between people, being denominated as interpersonal touch. The understanding of this phenomenon and the mechanisms involved are important, considering that a lot of daily actions involve interaction with other people, as guiding a person who needs assistance. Thus, the objective was to examine the interpersonal relationship, with light touch, on situations of visual manipulation. Participated in this study 18 young adults, college students, female sex (22.3 years ± 2.2, 1.63m ± 0.1, 58.1 kg ± 7.5), shared in pairs. The pairs of participants remained in standing position, inside a moving room, one participant a little forward. The front participant looked to a fixed target positioned 1m in front of her at the room's wall, and the back participant kept her eyes blindfolded. The participants were exposed to 4 experimental conditions: 1) no room movement and no touch;; 2) no room movement with touch (the participant positioned in the back lightly touched the right index finger on the shoulder of the front participant);; 3) with room movement and no touch;; 4) with room movement and touch. Each trial last 60 seconds. The results indicated that for the condition without room movement, both participants oscillated less when compared to the others. Still, with the use of touch during the room movement conditions, the back participant, influenced the front participant which was receiving the visual information, triggering a reduction in the oscillation magnitude. So, the results suggest that light touch in interpersonal relationship, with... |
