Resumo: | Periodontal disease is a chronic inflammatory disease, in which one pathogenic bacterial biofilm grows on the surface of the tooth root in a susceptible patient. If left untreated, can lead to alveolar bone resorption, infection and tooth loss. It has been suggested that periodontal disease may also have an impact on systemic health by spreading bacterial species host response factors, or some combination thereof. The deep pockets which are often present in untreated patients with periodontal disease offer a favorable environment for pathogenic plaque proliferation and facilitate the entry of bacteria and bacterial products into the bloodstream. Several epidemiological studies have shown a two-way relationship between periodontal disease and diabetes. Periodontitis may also be associated with an increased risk for other diabetic complications. For example, 82% of diabetic patients with advanced periodontitis had the top of one or more events such as: cardiovascular, cerebrovascular or peripheral vascular; compared with 21% of diabetic subjects without periodontal disease. This project began in 2013 and is ongoing. The aim of continuing this project is that the demand for dental treatment of patients with diabetes is great and often they can not be treated due to this systemic condition that limits many procedures. In the case of the project, teachers and students are more prepared to deal with this condition, and a medical support. In the face of conquests achieved in previous years; as patient care and conducting a "folder" for guidance thereof; in 2015 we are acting in the service of patient care, and besides, next to the public network dentists so you can act more in terms of prevention and health promotion for diabetics patients. Patients with diabetes are recruited, seeking care in ambulatory clinics ICT - UNESP SJC and from UBS(s) referred to conventional dental treatment. They receive a differentiated service, focused on comprehensive periodontal clinical examination and assessment of its systemic condition. They get along with important information and guidance on the influence of diabetes on gingival tissue and specific treatment when appropriate. After this first phase has periodical monitoring as required in each case. They are also held lectures for dentists of the public on the subject. It is hoped that this program, reduction and control of periodontal disease, improving the quality of life of individuals and providing knowledge for it to recognize the early signs of the disease and can act preventively. It is also expected to achieve results in terms of prevention in performances in partnership with the public so that periodontal disease is recognized as an important complication of diabetes. And that consequently this awareness will cover professionals and patients themselves. |

And that consequently this awareness will cover professionals and patients themselves.
