O escolar como difusor de conhecimento sobre câncer bucal para a família: 2 anos de experiência

Families of low socioeconomic status have as a diffuser of knowledge that children and adolescents acquire information at school. Oral cancer is the 8th among different types of cancer in the world, has a high mortality rate due to late diagnosis. Early diagnosis may be obtained by means of a mouthpiece which may be self-examination taught in schools. The aim of this study was explanatory lectures on oral cancer regarding the etiology, symptoms, risk factors and their associations and to assess the level of student learning and the dissemination of knowledge to their families. The survey was conducted with 621 students from three state schools from Araçatuba SP-349 family and the school; a knowledge assessment was performed by means of a pre-designed questionnaire. Through the results analyzed in general, it was observed that 48% of the lectures before the students knew the correct way to answer the questions after the lectures the percentage of students who answered correctly reached 64%; with respect to parents that same percentage of correct answers was 54% to 63%. Based on these findings, we conclude that there was a significant increase in hits after the lectures, a high assimilation of learning by the students and a great power of diffusion for their families
