The purpose of this research is the understanding of a great national thinker who directly or indirectly contributed to the formation of Brazilian geographic thought. Although geography has established itself as an academic science in Brazil only in the 1930s, it is possible to identify in the previous phases some remnants of the formation of Brazilian geographic thought in social scientists from other areas. The paper studies how the geographic thought of Oliveira Vianna acted in the national organization, in which the geographic ideology would cover this analysis of the thought in question, in an ideological-political field. For the understanding of his ideas it is important to contextualize at the structural and superstructural level the historical conjuncture, starting from the primitive accumulation of Capital in Brazil until the establishment of the conservative and authoritarian ideology as hegemonic. This ideology was propelled by a group of intellectuals, close to the government, to which Oliveira Vianna belonged, these interpreters of Brazil had as their main focus the question of national identity. The importation of geographic thought along with this conservative ideology served to create interpretations of the national reality on a geographical basis, with the purpose of constructively strengthening the nation-state centrally. In this sense, he does not compromise the readings of his vision, considering the cultural trends of the time
