Resumo: Postural control is a complex activity that involves higher centers of the nervous system in order to achieve or maintain a postural orientation, which demands attention even for daily postural tasks. Despite of its importance, little is known about possible changes in postural control attentional demands in elderly. Therefore, the objective of this study is to investigate the influence of dual task in the relationship between visual information and body sway in older adults. Twenty elderly adults (65,5 ± 3,6 years) and 20 young adults (23,1 ± 2,2 years) stood inside of a room, looking at a fixed target. Nine trials were conducted, in the first trial the room was maintained stationary. In the other trials, the room was oscillated, forward and back. In the first four trials, the room was moved and participants were not informed about the movement of the same and two of the trials the participants performed countdown with an interval of 3 values (100, 97, ...), called dual task. In the last four attempts, the participants were informed about the movement of the room and in two of these attempts had to make the count. The results indicated that visual manipulation induced body sway in young and old adults, and information on the movement of the room reduced this oscillation in both groups. Still, while older adults coherence values were not influenced by the information on the movement of the room and for carrying out the dual task, coherence values for young adults have been reduced with the presentation of information about the movement of the room, but increased with realization of the dual task. Information on visual manipulation reduced the influence of the moving room in body balance and changed the coupling between visual information and body sway only for young adults. Finally, the performance of dual task affected the relationship between visual and body sway information only for the group of young adults. Based upon these...
