Resumo: The monograph presents the development of a scientific investigation which, in the light of the theoretical tools provided by the language modern theories, approaches the latin text while a signification object singular on its manner of expressing the culture its belongs to. From the concepts provided by Linguistics, Semiotics and Modern Rhetoric, is proposed a reading of the Letter X from Ovid's Heroides, in order to comprehend, drawing on the enunciative operations analysis, how the meaning effects of the discourse are constructed, focusing mainly on its argumentative dimension. It seeks to recognize in the formal arrangement of language the expressive resources that produce, in the poetic text, certain meaning effects, aiming, ultimately, the persuasion, understood as basis of the relation between enunciator and enunciatee

Partindo dos conceitos fornecidos pela Linguística, pela Semiótica e pela Retórica Moderna, propõe-se uma leitura da carta X da obra Heroides, do poeta romano Ovídio, a fim de compreender, a partir da análise das operações enunciativas, como se constroem os efeitos de sentido do discurso, focalizando principalmente a sua dimensão argumentativa.
