The use and coating of soil influence the quantity and quality of water in watersheds. For this reason, the geo processing techniques allow analyses of soil occupation patterns to be made. This paper aims to identify and quantify, through temporal analysis, the change processes of soil use and occupation in the years of 1984 and 2014. The area of study comprises the subbasin of Ribeirão da Prata, which is located in Lençóis Paulista city, in São Paulo state. For mapping the soil’s use and occupation, orbital images were utilized from the satellites Landsat 5 and Landsat 8. The change analyses were conducted through the “Land Change Modeler” module (LCM), which made it possible to obtain relationships of gain, loss and constancy of the native vegetation. The results show that there has been an increase on the area of native vegetation, as well as a predominance of sugar cane for the analyzed period. This suggests that despite the agricultural activities in the area, there has been an improvement in terms of environmental conservation in the referred subbasin.
