Resumo: | Modifications in the morphology, chemical, physical-chemical properties of the implant surface and its influence on the osseointegration process have been the goal of many studies over the last years. The objective of this study was to characterize osseointegratable implants (Ti-cp) with machined surface (MS), laser-modified surface (LS) and laser-modified surface followed by sodium silicate (SS) deposition. For this purpose, topographic characterization was performed by scanning electron microscopy, SEM-EDX dispersive energy spectrometry. Mean roughness measurements, cross-sectional roughness measurements, contact angle and X-ray Diffractometry (DRX) of the three surfaces were also obtained. The data obtained by the roughness analysis (mean roughness) were taken to analysis of variance and Tukey t test. The MEV of MS showed smooth surface, contaminated with machining residues, while LS and SS produced rough surfaces with a more regular and homogeneous morphological pattern. Analysis by EDX did not reveal any contamination of the analyzed surfaces, and showed Ti peaks for MS and Ti and oxygen for LS and SS. The mean roughness values of LS and SS were statistically higher (p <0.05) when compared to MS. The roughness values in cross section were 21.76 ± 9.05 μm and 28.75 ± 10.12 μm respectively for LS and SS. The contact angle of LS and SS was 0º, allowing high wettability. The DRX of MS showed only Ti peaks, while LS and SS showed the presence of oxides and nitrides. In SS implants the DRX also showed the presence of sodium silicate. In view of the results obtained, it was concluded that the texturiations performed in the LS and SS implants promoted important modifications in the topography and physical-chemical properties of the analyzed surfaces |
