Resumo: The aim of this study was to evaluate the occurrence of dental anomalies in individuals with Down syndrome. For that were evaluated 100 panoramic radiographs of patients with this syndrome, present in CAOE files (Centre for Dental Care for Persons with Disabilities). Only permanent teeth were evaluated in patients aged from 7 to 42 years. The evaluation of radiographs was performed by two examiners, in an appropriate environment and with use of a light box. Among the patients, 43% were male and 57% female. The prevalence of dental anomalies in the study sample was 53%. The dental anomalies observed were microdontia (16%), hypodontia (14%), taurodontia (10%), impacted teeth (10%), supernumerary teeth (6%), macrodontia (3%), isolated microdontia (1%) and laceration root (1%). From the survey results it is concluded that the prevalence of dental anomalies is high in patients with Down syndrome, reinforcing the importance of dental care for these patients

Para isso foram avaliadas 100 radiografias panorâmicas, de pacientes portadores dessa síndrome, presentes nos arquivos do CAOE (Centro de Assistência Odontológica à Pessoa com Deficiência). Foram avaliados apenas dentes permanentes de pacientes com idades entre 7 e 42 anos. A avaliação das radiografias foi realizada por dois examinadores, em ambiente adequado e com utilização de negatoscópio. Dos pacientes avaliados, 43% eram do gênero masculino e 57% do gênero feminino. A prevalência de anomalias dentárias na amostra estudada foi de 53%. As anomalias dentárias observadas foram: microdontia (16%), hipodontia (14%), taurodontia (10%), dentes impactados (10%), dentes supranumerários (6%), macrodontia (3%), microdontia isolada (1%) e dilaceração (1%).
